Jesus just finished telling his disciples to expect to be persecuted and hated by others. He even went so far as to reassure them that the disciple is not above his teacher - so as to say that if I (Jesus) was mistreated, you can bet that you will be as well. He wanted to get the point acrcoss.

Not the kind of content that makes the cut for coffee cups.
Not the kind of passage that starts off a new segment on K-Love.

But the next thing Jesus says...
Spectacular.
Amazing.
Dumbfounding.

"So have no fear of them..."

Whenever you see statements like these in the Bible, especially coming out of the mouth of Jesus, you must keep reading. Jesus doesn't just throw out a bold statement like this without giving you the reason why you shouldn't fear - and the reason is something you can't afford to miss.

"Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows." (Matthew 10:29-33)

Just incase you forgot who we were talking about. This is the Sovereign God who says that Heaven is His throne and the earth His footstool (Isaiah 66:1). The God who is high and lifted up, Holy and set-apart from us and this world, the one who created the eyes that are connected to your brain that make it possible for you to read and understand these words. That God.

And that God said that He knows the number of hairs on your head. I'm assuming that you don't know that about yourself. I'm also assuming that you probably don't care to know that sort of silly, insignificant detail. It seems pointless, and that's just the point!

God not only knows you more than you know yourself, He knows the things about yourself that don't really matter. Jesus is trying to help us see that if God knows when the small sparrows fall and how many pieces of hair you have on your head, He surely sees you and cares for you much, much more.

God sees you. You are valuable to Him. More valuable than you think you are - and because of that, you don't need to fear any man, any threat, anything. When you come up to something you don't think you can get through, remember, God sees you. When you go through something you are sure will break you, remember, God cares for you.

Rest in His providential care for you today!

And just incase you wanted to know, the average male has around 100,000 pieces of hair on his head. We will probably never know the exact number. But God does...
