Hebrews 13:14 - "For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come!”
If you are a Christian, you must get this.
The pages of the Bible are oozing with evidence of it.
This is not your home.
I don't have to convince you that this life isn't going to last. Seasons come and go, flowers bloom and wilt, empires rise and fall. There is nothing lasting about this life or this world - and it is all designed to be that way.
The good news of Jesus is about this life and the life to come. The death and life of Jesus wasn’t just reserved for saving us from sin and wrath. It was, in as much, to save us for something to come. Something that will never be broken. Something that will always, in every respect, outshine this current world. That something is Heaven. It is the perfect city where God resides with His people in a land that is absent of pain and void of sin. A city that reflects the beauty and image of God in a way that this world cannot. That is your future. That is where your home is. That is where your treasure should be.
Don't get caught up in trying to plant your roots down deeper. Don't get worked up over trying to pad your bank account or prolong your comfort. We are, as the Bible repeats often, strangers and exiles on this earth. We are passing through - on route to a better Kingdom in a lasting city with a perfect King. This should radically alter how we operate. Our top priorities shouldn't be safety, comfort, recognition, applause, richest, etc. We don't have to make a name for ourselves in this life. We can live more freely - risking more because we know we have something in store for us later.
Your life is not about this life.
Your life now is about seeking the life to come.
May 2016 be a year we all learn with clearer vision that our home, our allegiance, our citizenship and our treasure is in Heaven, in Jesus - not this world.
